Red Mile: Heavy rain forces early end to Wednesday's racing

webmaster|Aug 05, 2026

Due to intense rain that arrived in Lexington during the Wednesday (Aug. 5) card of harness racing at The Red Mile, the track had to cancel the remainder of the 14-race card for unsafe track conditions.

The Red Mile has rescheduled Wednesday's remaining state-bred races to a non-wagering card on Sunday (Aug. 9) starting at 3 p.m. (EDT). The five Kentucky-bred races on the non-wagering card are headlined by the $80,000 Kentucky Championship Series opening preliminary for 2-year-old trotting fillies, which will be the first of five races held on the non-betting card.

Before the storms forced cancellation, The Red Mile hosted three of the four scheduled $15,000 Kentucky Golden Rod Series divisions, as well as one of the two $30,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series dashes. Mustang Baby (driven by Tim Tetrick, 1:56 3/5 winning mile; $5.54 to win), Putitondad'stab (Scott Zeron, 1:56 2/5; $3.32) and Martini Friday (Todd McCarthy, 1:56; $6.58) all reached the winner's circle in the Golden Rod divisions, while Jot It Down (Dexter Dunn, 1:56 1/5; $6) went pillar-to-post in the single division of the Kentucky Commonwealth, hitting the beam a length better than pocket-chaser Luxe Lindy (Tyler Miller) and late-rallying La Fortuna (Andy McCarthy).

The Red Mile will return to its regularly scheduled harness racing action on Sunday night with a 17-race card starting at 5:05 p.m. (EDT). Sunday's pari-mutuel card is headlined by three $80,000 Kentucky Championship Series opening preliminary events, with one division for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings and two divisions for 3-year-old trotting fillies.
