Red Mile: Gingras notches 9,000th win in the bike

Yannick Gingras, who ranks fourth on the list all-time for earnings by a driver, joined elite company by picking up his 9,000th lifetime victory with Ron Burke-trained Steely Knife on Monday afternoon at The Red Mile.
Gingras won three of the first nine races on the program to reach the milestone. He took the opener with Pink Bomb, a 2-year-old daughter of Chapter Seven, for trainer Nancy Takter in 1:59 and the third with 2-year-old Tactical Landing filly Oklahomasmokeshow for trainer Tony Alagna in 1:59 1/5 to set the stage.
Steely Knife, a 3-year-old Always B Miki colt who was the 2-5 favorite in a winners of one but not more than three overnight race, came first-up from fifth past the half, stormed into the lead in the lane, and pulled clear to score by a length and three-quarters in 1:52 3/5.

Only John Campbell, David Miller and Tim Tetrick have piloted horses to more earnings than Gingras, as the Quebec native, who has been active since 1998, sits at over $236.8 million.
