Red Mile: Geocentric dazzles in Kentucky Championship Series romp

On Tuesday (Aug. 1) The Red Mile hosted two $80,000 first round divisions of the Kentucky Championship Series, three $30,000 splits of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series and four $15,000 flights of the Kentucky Golden Rod Series for freshman and sophomore filly trotters and pacers. In the Championship Series test for pacing fillies, Geocentric (Sweet Lou-Geometry) tossed down a 26 3/5 final panel en route to a 1:49 4/5 mile, the fastest clocking for any 2-year-old so far this year.
Driven by Tim Tetrick, Geocentric immediately went to the lead from post position one, and the heavy favorite clicked off fractions of 28 1/5, 56 and 1:23 1/5. The Brian Brown trainee was never seriously challenged and hit the line 7 3/4 lengths in front of Gifted One (Captaintreacherous-Creative Power, Todd McCarthy). Reachingforthemoon (Captaintreacherous-Flyme To The Moon, Andrew McCarthy) was third.
Bred by Diamond Creek Farm, Geocentric was a $55,000 purchase at the 2022 Standardbred Horse Sale. This was her third victory in as many starts.
Geocentric is owned by Milton Leeman, Alan Keith, James Stambaugh and Joe Sbrocco. She paid $2.10 to win.
Mommamia Volo captured the $80,000 Kentucky Championship Series clash for 3-year-old trotting fillies in 1:52 2/5. With Todd McCarthy at the controls, the daughter of Tactical Landing and the outstanding mare Margarita Momma, (by Yankee Glide, $610,317) popped the pocket to win the third race of her career from 11 starts. The margin of victory was a head and the final time was 1:52 2/5. Karaboudjan (Mattias Melander) paid $2.46 to place and Caviart Gwen (Scott Zeron) offered $2.90 for third.

Catholic, Fearless Bettor and Capytreach win Commonwealth Series legs
Catholic (Tim Tetrick) collected her first win of the season in the sole $30,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series event for 3-year-old filly trotters. Trained by Marcus Melander, the filly competes as a homebred for Diamond Creek Farm and tallied in 1:52 2/5.
Her record now stands at 8-3-3-0 and she has earned $67,200. Catholic paid $4.20 to win.
Moni Lisa (David Miller, $8.92) was second and Swanky Hanover (Andrew McCarthy, $5.36) was third.
Fearless Bettor (Betting Line-No Fear Dear) and Joey Putnam scored a 17-1 upset in 1:52 in the first of two $30,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series showdowns for freshman filly pacers. Trained by Steve Elliott, the filly is owned by her conditioner and William Salmeri.
Fearless Bettor, who now has a record of 5-2-2-0, paid $37.56 to win. Blazing Belle (Zeron, $4.56) held the place position while Jus A Miki Moment (Tim Tetrick, $4.60) came home third.
Capytreach (Captaintreacherous-Southwind Thundra) tripped the teletimer in 1:51 3/5 to break her maiden in her fifth career start in the other Commonwealth Series dash for the pacers. Piloted by Zeron, the filly is trained by Linda Toscano. She is owned by West Wins Stable, Eric Good and Mark Dumain and was bred by Buckstone Land Livestock.
Capytreach paid $7.40 to win. Flawless (Yannick Gingras, $5.08) was second and Irreplaceable (Andrew McCarthy, $10.12) was third.

Explosive Trix, Direction, Over Board and win Goldenrod Series legs
Explosive Trix (1:53 4/5, Peter Wrenn, Melanie Wrenn, $54.78), Direction (1:52 1/5, Todd McCarthy, Brett Pelling, $3.80), Over Board (1:53 4/5, David Miller, Pinske, $5.52) and Flower Shops (1:53 4/5, Zeron, Dewayne Minor, $8.30) all took their respective Kentucky Golden Rod Series races for 2- and 3-year-old female trotters and pacers.
