Red Mile: Corbin Sires Stakes slate concludes

Racing at The Red Mile for this year concluded on Monday afternoon with a program that included $70,000 Corbin Sires Stakes finals for 3-year-old trotters.
In the colt and gelding tilt, first S I P (Joe Bongiorno) and then Ducasse (Andy McCarthy) posted fractions of 29 4/5, 57 4/5, and 1:25 3/5, but driver Tony Hall tipped out three-wide from third with Iwon't Backdown AS late on the final bend, and he would out-foot Ducasse and S I P to the wire, defeating Ducasse by a length and a half in 1:52 1/5. S I P, the 2-5 favorite, had to settle for third.
Anette Lorentzon trains Iwon't Backdown AS, a Lionhunter gelding, for breeder/co-owner ACL Stuteri AB and co-owner Kjell Johansson. This was his sixth career win, he has now earned $232,975, and he paid $19.30 to win an 8-1 shot.
The filly division saw Eternal Lee (McCarthy), who floated out from post nine, hit the front beyond the 27 2/5 opening quarter. Once she had control, Eternal Lee opened up on the lead through a 55 3/5 half and a 1:23 3/5 three-quarters, and a 28 4/5 last quarter got her to the wire a length ahead of a closing Rock A Bye Lindy (Dexter Dunn) in a 1:52 2/5 mile. La Lolita (Tyler Shehan) closed well to finish third.
