Red Mile: Chalky results in Sunday's Kentucky Championship Series

Race favorites Kopi Luwak and Ivy Park were victorious in Sunday afternoon's $80,000 Kentucky Championship Series events for 3-year-old and 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers, respectively.
Driven by Andy McCarthy, Kopi Luwak led through panels of 26 4/5, 54 1/5 and 1:22 2/5 in the tilt for the sophomores and tallied by 2 1/2 lengths in 1:49 1/5. Larceny (Brian Sears) got up for second and Captain Awesome (Yannick Gingras) finished third.
Tony Alagna trains Kopi Luwak, a colt by Stay Hungry bred by Steve Stewart and John Carver, for owner Brad Grant. Kopi Luwak has three career victories, has now earned $121,750 and paid $3.34 to win.
Ivy Park (Gingras) took command past the 29 1/5 opening quarter in the Kentucky Championship Series showdown for the rookies, and after putting up a soft middle-half of 58 1/5 and 1:27 2/5, he sprinted home in 26 2/5 to win by a measured half-length in 1:53 4/5. Snap Count (McCarthy) closed well for second, followed by Tua Many Captains (Andy Miller).
A Captaintreacherous colt, Ivy Park was bred by Marvin and Lynn Katz and Sam Goldband and is trained by Nancy Takter for owners Black Horse Racing, John Fielding, Joe Sbrocco and Nancy Takter and JAF Racing. Ivy Park has a record of 2-1-0 from three appearances, sent his bankroll to $60,000 and returned $3.28 to win.

Gingras also won a $30,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series division for 3-year-olds with Tip Top Cat (by Always B Miki and bred by Stewart and Carver) in 1:48 4/5 for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., Frank Canzone and Larry Karr and a $15,000 Kentucky Golden Rod Series split for 2-year-olds with Burke-trained Blood Bond (by Captain Crunch and bred by Diamond Creek Farm) for owners Diamond Creek Racing, Thomas Dillon and Scott Dillon.
McCarthy and Alagna would also team up for another stakes win in a Kentucky Golden Rod flight for the freshmen, scoring with Shock Trooper (by Captaintreacherous and bred by Steve Stewart, Cotton Nash and Julie Nash) in 1:53 1/5 for owners Marvin Katz, Brad Grant, Caviart Farms and Pryde Stables Inc.
The other Commonwealth Series winning 3-year-old was Admiral Hill (by Sweet Lou and bred by owner Tom Hill) in 1:49 3/5 for Brian Sears and Chris Ryder and the lone section for the rookies went to Leiter (by Captain Crunch and bred by Am Bloodstock Inc.) in 1:52 4/5 for Trevor Smith, Jeff Smith and owner Bet The House LLC.
Three-year-olds Blue Lou (by Sweet Lou and bred by Katz, Goldband and Anderberg, trained by Brett Pelling and driven by Todd McCarthy, 1:50 2/5) and Always Barefoot (by Always B Miki and bred by Jim Avritt Sr., trained by Erv Miller and driven by Atlee Bender, 1:52) and 2-year-old Fear The Madness (by Fear The Dragon and bred by Emerald Highlands Farm, trained by Joe Putnam and driven by Joey Putnam, 1:52 2/5) won the remaining Kentucky Golden Rod Series groupings.
