Red Mile: Brittany Farms sweeps KYSS for 2-year-old pacers

As sole owner of Making Waves and co-owner/breeder of Perfect Sting, Brittany Farms took home both $40,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes for 2-year-old pacers contested at The Red Mile on Tuesday afternoon.
The fillies kicked off the action and race-favorite Notorious Pink led the way through fractions of 28, 55 4/5 and 1:23 3/5. Blue Diamond Eyes, who tucked fourth in the early going, came first-over just past the half and applied light pressure to the winner as Making Waves patiently tracked her cover.
In the stretch, Making Waves used a 26 1/5 final quarter to burst past a game Blue Diamond Eyes and pocket-sitter Lindy At The Beach for the 1:50 1/5 victory. Notorious Pink tired to fourth.
A daughter of Captaintreacherous-Trim Hanover bred by Hanover Shoe Farms, Making Waves ($6.00) was driven by Scott Zeron for trainer Linda Toscano.
The royally-bred Perfect Sting took a different route to the winner's circle in the $40,000 colt and gelding division. The Always B Miki-Shebestingin product brushed to the front after an opening quarter of 27 2/5 and faced intense pressure from a first-over Natives Filou in the middle half fractions of 55 1/5 and 1:22 1/5 before pulling clear in the stretch. The final time was a sizzling 1:49 2/5, just two-fifths off a world record and the fastest mile by a 2-year-old for 2020.
Natives Filou was second and Caviart Lotus closed from the back for the show.
Also co-owned and bred by Val D’Or Farms, Perfect Sting ($2.80) is trained by Joe Holloway. David Miller drove the colt, who is now perfect in four career starts.
