Red Mile: Alagna barn collects three Kentucky Commonwealth titles

Tony Alagna teamed up with three different drivers to post a training triple in the $50,000 Kentucky Commonwealth finals for 2-year-old and 3-year-old pacers and trotters of both sexes that were highlighted on Monday's afternoon card at The Red Mile. The Kentucky Commonwealth is the second-level of the sires stakes program in the Bluegrass State, making it comparable to the Pennsylvania Stallion Series or New York Excelsior "A" Series.
Alagna pupil Sail By, a daughter of Captaintreacherous driven by Andrew McCarthy, showed the way and won the 3-year-old filly pace final by 7 1/4 lengths in 1:50 4/5, defeating Pristine Beauty (David Miller) and Pure Decadence (Dan Shetler). It was the seventh career win for Sail By, a Brittany Farms homebred.
The next Alagna Armada member to score was Captain Video (Scott Zeron) in the sophomore colt and gelding pace. Captain Video advanced into the lead past the opening quarter and dug in gamely to hold off a rallying Mancrush (D. Miller) by a neck in a 1:49 4/5 performance. Major Risky (Marvin Luna), another Alagna trainee, was third. Owned by Riverview Racing LLC., Alagna Racing LLC., and Joe Di Scala Jr., Captain Video is a Captaintreacherous colt, and he is now a seven-time winner in his life.
Completing the Alagna three-bagger was Lady Midnight in the 2-year-old filly pace. Driver Joe Bongiorno planted the daughter of Captaintreacherous on the engine beyond the quarter-mile marker, and she kicked clear in the lane to win by four lengths over stablemate Odds On Roxette (McCarthy) in a 1:51 4/5 mile. Alagna also completed the trifecta in this race with Odds On Badd Bunny (Dexter Dunn). Lady Midnight is a Brittany Farms LLC. & Marvin Katz homebred, and she now has a record of 4-0-0 from seven trips behind the gate.
McCarthy had another win in the 2-year-old male pace with A Rocknroll Dance colt Alamanac, who rallied off a three-hole trip to win by a head over Winner Is Coming (Dunn) in 1:51 2/5 for trainer Brian Brown and owner/breeder Diamond Creek Farm LLC., and Zeron also took the rookie male trot with Media Mogul by 3 3/4 lengths over Flemsteen (David Miller) in 1:54 4/5 for trainer George Ducharme and owners W.J. Donovan, Thomas Dillon, Purnel & Libby LLC., and Joe Sbrocco.
To round out the day's champions, Molto Bene, a daughter of Father Patrick, snagged the 3-year-old filly trot from first-over in 1:53 2/5 for Dunn, trainer Nifty Norman, and owner Fred Hertrich III., Muscle Hill gelding Sermon bagged the 3-year-old colt and gelding trot in 1:53 4/5 for driver Kasper Forget, trainer Per Engblom, and owners Consus Racing Stable Inc. and Longbridge Trotting Inc., and Miss Vet Hanover, by Yankee Glide, broke her maiden in the 2-year-old filly trot, getting up from the pocket to tally by a neck in 1:54 1/5 for owner/trainer/driver Verlin Yoder.
