OZONE PARK, N.Y. – If December is supposed to be the slow time on the racing calendar, someone forgot to notify Brad Cox. Cox, who in 2025 leads all North American-based trainers in purse money won with $29.8 million (through Tuesday) and stakes wins with 57, has gone 10 for 42 in December with wins at six different tracks, winning stakes at five venues. Over the last week of the month, Cox has stakes entrants at Gulfstream, Fair Grounds, Turfway Park, and Aqueduct. It will be at Aqueduct on Saturday where Cox sends out the pair of Kinetic and Full Screen in the $150,000 Queens County Stakes scheduled for 1 1/8 miles. The Queens County, which drew six runners, is carded as race 8 on an 11-race program that is scheduled to begin at 11:20 a.m. Early week weather forecasts called for the chance of snow Friday night into Saturday. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! Kinetic is a son of Street Sense out of the Bernardini mare Collective, making him a full brother to graded stakes winners Comparative – who won the Ladies here in 2024 – and Shared Sense. Kinetic won the restricted General MacArthur Stakes at Oaklawn Park in January. With that being his fourth win from his previous five starts, Kinetic was sent off the 6-5 favorite in the Grade 3 Essex Stakes on March 22 at Oaklawn. He was away slowly, took plenty of dirt, and was never really a factor finishing in front of just one horse, that one being eased in the stretch. Cox said Kinetic came out of the Essex “like a tired horse” and was given time off. He resumed working Aug. 30 and shows 14 workouts leading to his return. Cox had hoped to run him in a multi-conditioned allowance race going one mile on Dec. 12, but that race failed to fill. “He’s been ready to run for a while,” Cox said. “This is the only other option we had up there, so here we are. He’s one of those horses where a mile and an eighth, mile and a quarter are things that will benefit him,” Cox said. “This is not what I wanted to do off the layoff, but he’s plenty fit.” Chris Elliott will ride Kinetic from the rail. Cox teamed with Sandy Goldfarb to claim Full Screen for $100,000 in July, and three starts later he romped to a six-length victory in a similar spot on Nov. 20, earning a career-best 100 Beyer Speed Figure. “You’re a little concerned when they run that big that when you run back if you’re going to get that performance,” Cox said. “I think we’ve given him enough time, he’s trained well since. He’s doing really well and he obviously likes the track.” Manny Franco rides Full Screen from post 4. Cooke Creek won the Battery Park Stakes at Delaware Park in September and then finished last in the Grade 2 Clark at Churchill in November. Trainer Mike Maker said Cooke Creeke was “just over his head” in the Clark. Maker noted that Cooke Creek prefers to be outside of horses and was glad that he will break from the outside post in this six-horse field. Flavien Prat rides. Classicist, trained by four-time Queens County winner Todd Pletcher, is 2 for 2 at 1 1/8 miles, both wins coming in front-running fashion. Film Star, another front-running type, is making his first start off a $100,000 claim made by Jupiter Stable and Dr. John Albano and makes his first start for Gustavo Rodriguez. Bourbon Day, coming off a win in a second-level allowance/optional claimer on Nov. 21, is 3 for 3 at Aqueduct. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
