Red Cabernet repeats in Eternal Search

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Red Cabernet won the $100,000 Eternal Search Stakes for the second year in a row on Wednesday night at Woodbine.
The 1 1/16-mile event for Ontario-sired females was previously called the Victoriana, and run on the main turf. Red Cabernet won this edition of the race over the new inner turf course under Emma-Jayne Wilson.
“She’s a heck of a mare,” Wilson said. “Point her in the right direction, and she goes. It was the first time on the inner for her. She had a little look-around late, and she kind of waited on them a little bit, but when they got to her, she [went] ‘Whoa, I’m in a horse race.’ She put her ears right back, and went right back to business.”

Red Cabernet raced in third along the inside on the backstretch as Silent Respected set an honest pace. Wilson angled Red Cabernet wide for the drive, and she made the lead inside the eighth pole before holding off a charging She’s the Berries late to win by a neck in a course record time of 1:42.89. She paid $11.30.
Piper’s Legacy, the slight 2-1 favorite over She’s the Berries, finished a length back in third. Without a Doubt faded to fourth in the seven-horse field. Miss Sea was scratched.
A daughter of Signature Red, Red Cabernet banked $60,000 for Piano Bar Racing and trainer Ian Black.
