Record nominees for Kentucky Oaks

Churchill Downs on Friday announced that a record 192 3-year-old fillies have been nominated to the 133rd running of the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks, surpassing the former mark of 191 nominations in 1986 and 1987.

Every accomplished 3-year-old filly in training has been made eligible to the $500,000 Oaks, including Dreaming of Anna, Rags to Riches, Appealing Zophie, Cotton Blossom, Octave, Sutra, Boca Grande, and Cash Included.

The 1 1/8-mile Oaks is set for May 4, the day before the Kentucky Derby. The Oaks drew 160 nominees in 2006 and 144 in 2005.

Churchill also released nominations for the Grade 1, $500,000 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic, with Miesque's Approval, Showing Up, English Channel, and Wait a While heading a list of 110 nominees. The 1 1/8-mile Woodford Reserve directly precedes the Derby on the May 5 program.
