Record crowd watches C.R. Charmer win

C.R. Charmer ($8.40) went to the front early and then held a short lead throughout to post her second stakes win this year in Friday's $28,850 Fantango Lady at Horsemen's Park in Omaha, Neb.

The race was for older Nebraska-bred fillies at a mile and served as the feature on the second day of this track's annual four-day summer festival of racing. Track officials estimated Friday evening's crowd at a record 18,000 with many fans missing the first of four races on the card because of a mile-long traffic jam leading to the track.

C.R. Charmer's 1 1/2-length win gave rider Beth Butler her first victory at this track.
