Reckless Abandon retired to Darley’s Kildangan Stud

Reckless Abandon, a Group 1 winner in England and France, has been retired and will stand the 2014 breeding season at Darley’s Kildangan Stud in Co. Kildare, Ireland. A fee will be announced at a later date.

The 3-year-old Exchange Rate colt excelled at the sprint distances, going undefeated in his first five starts, a run which included victories in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and Group 2 Norfolk Stakes in England, and the Group 1 Prix Morny and Group 2 Prix Robert Papin in France.

Reckless Abandon retires with five wins from eight starts for earnings of $587,978. He was trained by Clive Cox for owners Julie Deadman and Stephen Barrow, who originally purchased the colt at auction for $39,122, then leased him from Darley after the global operation acquired the colt following his Middle Park win.

“Reckless Abandon was an unbeaten champion 2-year-old, a brilliant sprinter and he has the physique to match,” Sam Bullard, Darley’s director of stallions, said. “He’s an attractive, strong young stallion and is very likely to sire precocity. We are thrilled to have him join the Darley roster for 2014 and have no doubt that he will be very popular with breeders.”

Bred in Great Britain by Car Colston Hall Stud, Reckless Abandon is out of the stakes-placed winning Efisio mare Sant Elena, who has produced two winners from as many foals to race. He is from the family of Grade/Group 1 winner Crowded House and Ticker Tape.
