Recharge to rest after Houston Ladies Classic victory

Recharge is recharging at her base of Sam Houston Race Park following her win in the track’s Grade 3, $300,000 Houston Ladies Classic last Saturday.
“That was significant,” said trainer Steve Asmussen. “We had targeted that – got the [prep] race in at Houston, let them come to her.
“We’ll graze her and pet on her for a little while now.”

Recharge earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 90 for her win in the Houston Ladies Classic. She fought for a neck victory after setting a pressured pace in an effort that mirrored her neck win last year in the $250,000 Sunland Park Oaks.
“Both of those races looked almost identical, both of her stakes wins,” Asmussen said. “She’s really good at winning. They had her and she just battles back. I think there’s no substitute for pedigree and that’s where it comes out.”
Recharge, who is 6 for 8, is a daughter of Gun Runner and the Tapit mare Remit, who also is the dam of multiple Grade 2 winner Finite and multiple stakes winner Reride. Recharge was bred by her owner, Winchell Thoroughbreds.
Recharge raced at Sam Houston in her starts immediately preceding both of her stakes wins, Asmussen noted, and present plans are to keep her in Houston. She is 3 for 3 over the local main track and is fond of the local barn crew, led by assistant Pablo Ocampo, added Asmussen.
Plans for her next start are to be determined.
“We’ll give her enough time,” Asmussen said. “We’ll go back to the track, make sure she’s over the race, then we’ll decide,”
