INGLEWOOD, Calif. - This will be a last chance autumn and winter for Reba Is Tops to pad her career statistics. Scheduled to be bred next year in Kentucky, Reba Is Tops, 6, will start in Friday’s $55,000 Raise Your Skirt Stakes over six furlongs on turf as the likely favorite. The turf sprint is the sort of race in which Reba Is Tops has thrived in recent years. A three-time stakes winner, she has placed in five stakes in her 25-race career. Friday, Reba Is Tops will be after her second win of the year. She won an optional claimer over six furlongs on turf on Nov. 7, when she was eligible to be claimed for $62,500. There were no takers. “A few years ago, she would have been gone for sure,” trainer Mark Glatt said. “Her career is winding down. She’ll make one or two more starts next year and then be sent to Kentucky to be bred.” Glatt said that Reba Is Tops battled a lingering illness during late summer, and it took her longer than expected to recover. “She never got really sick, but she wasn’t right,” Glatt said. “Her blood count was off, and such.” Glatt felt more confident after Reba Is Tops won on Nov. 7. “The easier company had to help and it was the first time she was back to herself in quite some time,” he said. The Raise Your Skirt Stakes has drawn eight entrants, including the stakes winners Waveline, who was 11th in the BC Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs on Nov. 6; Rated Fiesty, a stakes winner at Oaklawn Park in 2009; and Well Deserved, who has not started in 12 months. Glatt is hoping that Reba Is Tops can settle behind the leaders. “She’s best with a tracking trip,” Glatt said. “She likes to have something in front of her.”
