R.D. Williams gets 3,500th

ALTOONA, Iowa - Veteran jockey R. D. Williams notched his 3,500th career victory Wednesday night at Prairie Meadows.

The 47-year-old Williams began the day by scoring win number 3,499 with a front-running ride aboard longshot Dig In Duggie ($90.20) in the evening's first race, a six-furlong maiden claiming event.

Williams, who began his career in 1976 and has been a fixture in the Midwest since then, got his milestone victory in the eighth race, a one-mile 70-yard allowance contest, aboard Tsunami Girl ($10.20) for trainer Donnie K. Von Hemel.
