Ramsey considering trip to Woodbine for Whenigettoheaven

Trainer Nolan Ramsey said he is still unsure if Whenigettoheaven will run again before the $100,000 Maryland Million Turf Sprint at Laurel Park next month. If the 7-year-old gelding does squeeze in another start, however, he will likely do so at Woodbine in the $250,000 Nearctic Stakes.

“I’m going to see how that race is shaping up,” Ramsey said. “We may ship up there and prep him. If that race looks like it’s going to come up a little salty for us, then we’ll probably train him straight into the Maryland Million.”

Whenigettoheaven has been a mainstay on Maryland Million Day for years and finally put himself back on the map in August, when he upset familiar rival Determined Kingdom in the $100,000 Meadow Stable Handicap at Colonial Downs.

Whenigettoheaven won the Meadow Stable last year before finishing second in the Maryland Million Turf Sprint, but the Colonial prep was pushed back to from Aug. 30 to Aug. 15 in 2026.

If the gelding does end up shipping for the Nearctic, a six-furlong turf sprint on Oct. 3 at Woodbine, it would be his first career start outside the United States. He would then have three weeks to get ready for Maryland Million Day.
