Rampellini: Oaklawn Park horses to watch for week of March 7
STARSTRUCK KITTEN
Trainer: Mark Cristel
Last race: March 4, 5th
Finish: 2nd by 3
Beyer: 67
He’s caught wet tracks in his last two starts at the meet, and both of his wins have come over surfaces rated “fast.” He might have a future on grass as a full brother to both Bobby’s Kitten, a winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, and Camelot Kitten, a multiple graded stakes winner on grass.
TAPSOLUTE
Trainer: Steve Asmussen
Last race: March 3, 9th
Finish: 2nd by 3/4
Beyer: 83
He was placed first in an allowance following the disqualification of Chris and Dave. Tapsolute had two horses beat at the eighth pole and came rolling through the stretch in the one-mile race that ended at the sixteenth pole. The start was his first since December, and suspect there could be added distance next time for the son of Tapit and the Grade 3-winning mare Bouquet Booth.
DORODANSA
Trainer: Kellyn Gorder
Last race: March 3, 4th
Finish: 3rd by neck
Beyer: 76
She put in a sweeping move on the final turn of an optional $40,000 claiming route to take a clear lead into the stretch of the 1 1/16-mile race but was overtaken late. It appeared that her rider might have misjudged the finish line, one start after the pair was third in a one-mile race that ended at the sixteenth pole at Oaklawn.
