Invaded from Southern California for an allowance sprint, and after being part of a quick pace, he separated himself from his rivals through the lane. He bounded home in his first start at Oaklawn and covered six furlongs in 1:09.55 on a track that had been upgraded to fast for his race. Captain Scotty was coming off a close runner-up finish in a Santa Anita allowance in the slop in which the winner covered six furlongs in a blazing 1:07.40.
