Rampellini: Oaklawn Park horses to watch for week of Feb. 21
ZULFIKHAR
Trainer: Bob Baffert
Last race: Feb. 19, 10th
Finish: 4th by 4 3/4
Beyer: 76
Triple Crown nominee is an imposing son of Bodemeister. He ran a credible race in a deep allowance that served as his first start at two turns, first race on a wet track, and first out since July. He also broke from one of the widest gates on a card in which the No. 1 horse won five races on the program. The one-two finishers from the race Zulfikhar exits are under consideration for stakes that offer points for the Kentucky Derby.
MIZ K
Trainer: Steve Hobby
Last race: Feb. 19, 7th
Finish: 5th by 8
Beyer: 50
She’s bred for success at two turns and suspect she could be headed for a route soon after making her first start off a layoff at a sprint distance. The allowance marked her first out on a wet track, and over the local strip, her best works had come on fast tracks. She’s a daughter of Tapit and the millionaire Tiz Miz Sue, whose biggest win came in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps.
MOURINHO
Trainer: Bob Baffert
Last race: Feb. 19, 9th
Finish: 4th by 7 1/4
Beyer: 82
He did the heavy lifting in the Grade 3, $500,000 Southwest Stakes as he set a pressured pace over a laboring surface while spotting his rivals three to seven pounds each. Mourinho, who was making his first start on a wet track, is a May foal, and for the Southwest, he was picking up seven pounds off a win in last month's Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn.
