Rampellini: Oaklawn Park horses to watch for week of Feb. 20, 2019
SONNETEER
Trainer: Keith Desormeaux
Last Race: Feb. 18, 8th
Finish: 4th by 3 1/2 lengths
Beyer: 88
He invaded from Southern California for the Razorback Handicap that drew 14. Sonneteer had just two rivals beat early, advanced strongly along the rail on the final turn, was forced to check in the stretch when in tight between rivals, then re-rallied to save fourth. Desormeaux said the horse is a candidate to return to Oaklawn for the Essex Handicap.
INTREPID HEART
Trainer: Todd Pletcher
Last Race: Feb. 18, 3rd
Finish: 1st by 7 3/4 lengths
Beyer: 81
May foal invaded from Florida to debut at the home track of his owners, Robert and Lawana Low. He ran in a maiden special weight that had an inflated purse of $93,000 for Southwest Day and after withstanding pace pressure in the mile race opened up on his rivals through the stretch. He is a son of Tapit and a half-brother to Commissioner, a Grade 2 winner who ran second in the Belmont Stakes.
BOLITA BOYZ
Trainer: Robertino Diodoro
Last Race: Feb. 18, 2nd
Finish: 4th by four lengths
Beyer: 80
He had a less than ideal trip in an optional $50,000 claiming sprint in which he broke last of all and later encountered traffic. He was stepping up in class for the race, which was his first since September. In addition, Bolita Boyz hooked a quality winner in New York Central, who covered six furlongs in 1:09.85 for a Beyer Speed Figure of 90.
