Rampellini: Oaklawn Park horses to watch for week of April 12
THIRSTFORLIFE
Trainer: Wes Hawley
Last race: April 5, 8th
Finish: 2nd by 1 3/4
Beyer: 91
He was intended for the $300,000 Essex Handicap last month at Oaklawn but was scratched after sustaining an injury shipping up from Fair Grounds, according to Hawley. The allowance last week was his first start since Feb. 17, and he contested the pace in a useful start off the bench. He seems like a horse sitting on a productive season.
SUTTON IMPACT
Trainer: Robertino Diodoro
Last race: April 8, 7th
Finish: 6th by 17 3/4
Beyer: 42
A three-time winner at the meet, his final local race of the season seems like a toss-out. He did not get the break from his rail post and moved up to dispute a quick pace over a tiring track. Sutton Impact was favored off wins in a pair of six-furlong races in which he covered the distance each time in a quick 1:09.80.
