Mary Rampellini’s Oaklawn Park analysis for Sunday, April 26, 2020

BEST BET: Superstar Bea (1st race)

First Race
1. Superstar Bea 2. Joy in the Journey 3. Another Rocket

The impressive debut winner Edgeway meets a handful of stakes winners later on the card in the featured ninth, an optional $80,000 claiming sprint for 3-year-old fillies. SUPERSTAR BEA gets the nod in the opener after being favored against steeper in her most recent start. She cuts back to one turn here, and am looking for her to be strong through the stretch on account of the distance move. JOY IN THE JOURNEY is back with statebreds. She also brings natural speed to the table. ANOTHER ROCKET, who is making her first start since September, exits a key race. The winner came back in her next start to account for an optional $10K claimer at RP with a Beyer of 81 and the runner-up another optional $10K claimer at Hou, with a Beyer of 77.

Second Race
1. China Cat 2. A Real Gem 3. Gypsy Wind Jeanne

CHINA CAT could take these a long way on the lead. She's moving to two turns for the first time and making her second start off the layoff. China Cat also gets in light under seven-pound bug rider Roberts. A REAL GEM has experience at this mile and a sixteenth trip and will be first Lasix. GYPSY WIND JEANNE stepped up her game last out with the move to two turns. For this trip, she draws an improved post.

Third Race
1. Dulce Ride 2. Miz Nightcap 3. Girl From Berlin

DULCE RIDE is appealing from a class standpoint as one who has been facing steeper. She also could be sitting on a peak race in what will be the third start of her form cycle. MIZ NIGHTCAP appears to have more natural speed than most of these and as such is a candidate to control the pace. GIRL FROM BERLIN has hooked some notable winners in each of her starts at the meet.

Fourth Race
1. Reach the Moon 2. Fudge Tough 3. Time Is Now

REACH THE MOON makes the move to dirt for the first time in his career and he gets pedigree support for the surface as a son of Tapit. He also turned a bullet half-mile on the main track at Fair Grounds on March 21. FUDGE TOUGH owns the field's best last-race dirt Beyer Figure. He could be sitting on a peak effort here, in his third start since September. TIME IS NOW moves back to two turns for his second start of the year. He's appealing on class as one who has been facing steeper. Another of interest is UNIMAGINABLE U.

Fifth Race
1. Rockys Warrior 2. Ravens Reflection 3. Niigon's Glory

ROCKYS WARRIOR shortens up a tad in distance and his speed should serve him well at this 5 1/2-furlong trip. RAVENS REFLECTION starts from post 11, but he, too, brings speed to the table. NIIGON'S GLORY could get a nice stalking trip behind top two. He's back at Oaklawn, where he is 3 for 5. Others of interest include SLADENS DREAM, who exits a key race, and WEAST HILL.

Sixth Race
1. Sweet Carli 2. Leading Indicator 3. She Be Addie

SWEET CARLI ran a credible race last out on the cut-back from two turns to one and could be even sharper here, in her second straight sprint start. SWEET CARLI won at this distance in January, and that afternoon also broke from post 11. LEADING INDICATOR has been second for this price in her last three starts, all at Santa Anita. SHE BE ADDIE has turned a bullet three-eighths since her last start and has reason to move forward here in her second race since October.

Seventh Race
1. Madison Way 2. Boathouse View 3. Final Form

MADISON WAY was third last out in a race that went in good time and seems like a logical choice back. She has tactical speed and could get an ideal trip off a trio of front-runners breaking to her immediate inside. BOATHOUSE VIEW exits same race as top choice, closing for fourth. FINAL FORM is a winner of three of her last four starts and she owns the field's best last-race Beyer Figure.

Eighth Race
1. Lil Miss Moppet 2. Tipsy Gal 3. Trapped N My Mind

LIL MISS MOPPET made her dirt debut last out and ran a big second, beaten a neck by a fellow Southern California runner and earning a strong Beyer Figure of 73. It's the best career number in this race. Lil Miss Moppet is from a stakes-placed mare who went 10 for 24 during her racing career while earning $257K. TIPSY GAL faces older rivals for the first time, but has represented herself well against some quality winners at the meet. She also owns one of the field's best last-race Beyer Figures and worked a bullet half-mile in 46.60 seconds here April 21. TRAPPED N MY MIND was third last out in same race as top choice and the start was this one's first since August.

Ninth Race
1. Edgeway 2. Wasabi Girl 3. Charming Lady

EDGEWAY was a standout debut winner here in February and went on to represent herself quite well in her stakes debut last out, when third in an outstanding renewal of the Purple Mountain. She is a candidate to control the pace against these but the outside draw might give Baze options. Edgeway is from a stakes-winning mare who banked $75K. WASABI GIRL also exits the Purple Mountain, finishing fourth. She had placed in a pair of stakes prior to the out, establishing her class. CHARMING LADY was second to a quality winner last out in a race that has become a key one. The fourth-place finisher, Piece of My Heart, returned in her next start to account for an optional $80K claiming route at OP with a Beyer of 85 and the seventh-place finisher, She's All Wolfe, the $55K Cinema at WRD, with a Beyer of 61. This one is cutting back from two turns to one, the site of her maiden score. The field here is a strong one, and also includes stakes winners GEE SHE SPARKLES, HIGH ON GIN, SASSY SENECA, SEKANI, and also-eligible MARYANORGINGER. On a pedigree point, BANKER'S CANDY is from a multiple Grade 2-winning mare who ran out $567K.

Tenth Race
1. Inthemidstofbiz 2. Gold Credit 3. Shilah Baby

INTHEMIDSTOFBIZ gets the nod in part because of her company lines, as a few races back she was a close-up fourth to Sunny Dale. Sunny Dale won her first three starts at the meet and on Saturday was to test stakes rivals in the Carousel at Oaklawn. Inthemidstofbiz, who could get a nice tracking trip behind a few runners to her inside, is from a stakes-winning mare who banked $154K. GOLD CREDIT cuts back to one turn and she put up her best career Beyer Speed Figure at this six-furlong trip in February at Oaklawn. There appears to be a nice amount of speed in this spot, which could set up her late run. SHILAH BABY makes her first start since November. The race she exits has become a key one, with the runner-up coming back to take an optional $35K claimer at GP with a Beyer Figure of 87 and the eighth-place finisher, On Deck, a $30K claimer at FG with a Beyer of 68. JULIA'S READY is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Tom's d'Etat ($1.3M).
