Rampellini: Oaklawn horses to watch for week of Feb. 26, 2018
FORT FORTITUDE
Trainer: Chris Hartman
Last Race: Feb. 23, 8th
Finish: 1st by a half-length
Beyer: 89
He surged late to get past a much more experienced runner who had set the pace in an optional $30,000 claiming sprint. It was the second straight win at the meet for Fort Fortitude – both coming in the slop. The horse also is a winner on a fast track. Fort Fortitude has just sprinted to date, but perhaps two turns will be an option for him as he is out of a half-sister to both Grade 1 winner Pure Clan and Grade 2 winner Greater Good.
MOON GATE WARRIOR
Trainer: Norman McKnight
Last Race: Feb. 22, 6th
Finish: 5th by 18 1/4 lengths
Beyer: 57
He exits a race in which the winner rolled by 10 lengths. The start came at a mile in a local configuration that ends at the sixteenth pole, and this one figures to benefit from more ground. Just one start earlier he captured a race at 1 1/16 miles. Moon Gate Warrior is a son of Bernardini and J Z Warrior, a four-time stakes winner and half-sister to Grade 1 winner A Z Warrior. There was a nine-way shake at the claim box for Moon Gate Warrior.
LIAM’S WORLD

Finish: 2nd by six lengths
Beyer: 62
She was taken in a 21-way shake, for a claiming price of $10,000. Earlier in her career she was based in New York.
