Rampellini: Oaklawn horses to watch for week of Feb. 25
PANGBURN
Trainer: Ken McPeek
Last race: Feb. 20, 9th
Finish: 1st by 1 1/4
Beyer: 78
Kentucky Oaks candidate can be closer to the pace than she found herself last out in her first start since September, when she circled the field to win a first-level allowance route. She spotted her rivals several lengths at the start, and McPeek noted that she had her head turned and “left flat-footed.” In a bit of trivia, Pangburn did not race with the diuretic Lasix and as such earned a purse bonus from Oaklawn.
DEN’S LEGACY
Trainer: Ron Moquett
Last race: Feb. 22, 5th
Finish: 5th by 12
Beyer: 72
Grade 3 winner was racing over a wet track for the first time in a first-level allowance route and was close to the pace on a laboring track. The race was his first around two turns after a sprint comeback race that marked his first start since October.
HARBOR FOG
Trainer: Randy Morse
Last race: Feb. 22, 9th
Finish: 3rd by 3 1/2
Beyer: 67
He dueled over a laboring track and did well to hold third on a card in which off-the-pace horses fared best. Further, he ran in the last race on an afternoon of continual rain that saw the track downgraded from “good” to “sloppy” following the third race.
BEE’S BULL
Trainer: C.B. Williams
Last race: Feb. 22, 4th
Finish: 4th by 10
Beyer: 28
He’s a speed horse who caught a laboring track and cut the fractions to the top of the stretch before being overtaken in a $12,500 maiden-claiming race for horses bred in Arkansas. His next out will be his third race since October.
