Rampellini: Oaklawn horses to watch for week of April 9
ABRAQAT
Trainer: Dan Peitz
Last race: April 4, 7th
Finish: 3rd by 4 1/4
Beyer: 59
She made a nice run for third in her career debut in a maiden special weight for 3-year-old fillies over six furlongs. She would seem poised to move forward as the distances increase since she is a daughter of Smart Strike and the mare Spun Sugar, a multiple Grade 1 winner whose victories included the Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn.
JOY BOY
Trainer: Kellyn Gorder
Last race: April 4, 6th
Finish: 4th by 7 1/2
Beyer: 86
He has proven to be at his best when dictating the pace and on the cutback in distance last out instead found himself chasing quick fractions in an optional $62,500 claimer for 4-year-olds and up at a mile. The race should have him sharp for his next start.
OUR QUISTA
Trainer: Al Cates
Last race: April 4, 8th
Finish: 3rd by 1 1/2
Beyer: 80
She ran well on the cutback from a mile to six furlongs when third to a sharp filly in Heykittykittykitty in an optional $50,000 claimer. The race went in a good time. Cates said Our Quista is being considered for a move back to turf, with an option being the $60,000 Matron at a mile at Evangeline Downs on April 24.
