ALTOONA, Iowa – The favored Rallydownthealley ($4.00) made a dramatic late surge to emerge victorious in a three-way photo and garner top honors in the $100,000 Donna Reed, a one-mile-and-seventy-yard event for Iowa-bred fillies and mares. Rallydownthealley's win clinched the meet's training title for Federico Villafranco, whose principal owner, Danny Caldwell, was the leading owner. Under leading rider Ramon Vazquez's persistent pressure, Rallydownthealley got up to defeat the 32-1 longshot Foxy Fleda's late flourish by a head. She in turn was a nose in front of the gutsy pacesetter Ella's Glory. Rallydownthealley covered the Donna Reed distance in 1:45.02 and collected $59,100 for Caldwell. Villafranco ended up with 50 wins, three more than trainer Lynn Chleborad. Oh My Gravy surges to Ralph Hayes victory Oh My Gravy ($4.20) surged past his rivals with a bold move along the rail and went on to a 6 3/4-length win in the co-featured $100,000 Ralph Hayes, a 1 1/16-mile test for Iowa-breds. Ending a frustrating streak of placings, Oh My Gravy netted the big prize for Iowa-breds under an astute ride from Glenn Corbett. King Jimmy rallied to pick up second, three lengths in front of the race's 2011 and 2013 winner, Cainam. Collecting $59,400 for owners Russell Placzek, Steve Oeschlager, and Rick Engel, Oh My Gravy provided trainer Kelly Von Hemel with an Iowa Classic win and got the distance in 1:45.60. Dreamin rallies to upset Iowa Sorority Dreamin made a dramatic six-wide swooping rally to upset the $75,000 Iowa Sorority, a six-furlong dash for Iowa-bred 2-year-old fillies. Ridden by Belen Quinonez for trainer Tim Martin, Dreamin ($84.80) swept past eight rivals, including second-place finisher Native Princess's effective bid for a 1 1/2-length score. Dreamin, a Woke Up Dreamin filly owned by breeder Donald Downing, covered the Sorority distance in 1:12.54 and earned $44,100. One Fine Dream slides up rail for Iowa Cradle score One Fine Dream rallied along the rail for an exciting half-length tally in the $73,500 Iowa Cradle, a six-furlong sprint for Iowa-bred colts and geldings. Under a polished display from jockey Alex Canchari, One Fine Dream ($5.40) got past the determined No Holds Barred, who fended off the favored Cornfed. Cornfed, who stumbled at the start, held on for third. Wait N C wins Iowa Breeders’ Oaks Wait N C Spring made a steady rally to seize top honors in the $80,000 Iowa Breeders' Oaks. Ridden by Ramon Vazquez, the Lynn Chleborad trainee won by 2 1/2-lengths over the favored Colerful Bride. Covering one mile and seventy yards in 1:45.51, Wait N C Spring ($14.20) bested 11 Iowa-bred 3-year-old fillies and collected $46,200 for Poindexter Thoroughbreds LLC. Net Gain scores easy victory in Iowa Breeders’ Derby Net Gain cruised up on the far turn and ran past his Iowa-bred competition for an easy 6 1/4-length win in the $80,000 Iowa Breeders' Derby, a 1 1/16-mile event for 3-year-olds. Based at Churchill Downs in trainer Bill Mott's stable, Net Gain ($2.40) made his track debut a valuable one and defeated Desanctus, a 46-1 longshot in the 13-horse field. Owned by WinStar Farm LLC, Net Gain, confidently handled by jockey Terry Thompson, earned $45,900 and stopped the clock in 1:47.24.
