Rakti starting stallion career

Rakti, the winner of six Group 1 races in England and Italy over the last four years, arrived at Huma Park Stud in Ireland on Tuesday to begin his career at stud.

Rakti, 7, began racing in Italy with trainer Bruno Grizzetti, for whom he won the Italian Derby in 2002. Purchased by Gary Tanaka that fall, Rakti, an English-bred son of Polish Precedent, was sent to trainer Michael Jarvis's yard in England for his 4-year-old season, during which he landed the Premio Presidente della Repubblica and the Champion Stake. At 5 he added the Prince of Wales's Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Rakti completed his Group 1 sextet last May in the Lockinge Stakes, in which he broke the Newbury course record for a mile by 1.04 seconds.

All told, Rakti won 11 races from 26 starts for earnings of $2,915,853. He will stand for a fee of approximately $14,350.
