Rainha Da Bateria noses out stablemate in Canadian

Michael Burns Rainha Da Bateria, ridden by Julien Leparoux, finishes a nose ahead of favored Dacita in the Grade 2 Canadian.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — The Chad Brown-trained runners Rainha Da Bateria and even-money favorite Dacita ran one-two while a nose apart in the $303,000 Canadian Stakes on the Woodbine Mile undercard Saturday at Woodbine.

With Julien Leparoux aboard, Rainha Da Bateria ($11.30) raced in second on the backstretch behind the runaway leader, Midnight Miley, who set a lively pace in the Grade 2 turf route.

Rainha Da Bateria drifted out entering the stretch as she overtook Midnight Miley, and then opened up a clear lead, while Dacita was in the midst of her inside rally. Dacita’s bid fell just short of Rainha Da Bateria, who covered the about nine-furlong distance in 1:46.87 over the “good” ground.

Faufiler finished three lengths back in third. She was followed by Strut the Course, Steiph Amach, Midnight Miley, and Goodyearforroses.

“I rode her once in Saratoga, and she just wants to be wherever she puts you,” said Leparoux. “She was very comfortable. She broke sharp, and then settled and was relaxed. She did good until she came into the stretch and started looking around a little bit and getting out. That was a new thing that I learned about her, but at least she won.”

Rainha Da Bateria, a daughter of Broken Vow, banked $180,000 for Lael Stable. She also earned a fees-paid berth to the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita in the BC Win and You’re In event.
