Santa Anita canceled racing on Wednesday and Thursday this week because of rain. As of 10 a.m. on Thursday, areas close to Santa Anita had received approximately 2.1 inches of rain, according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Much of the rain fell late Wednesday evening and into the early hours of Thursday. Racing is scheduled for Friday through Sunday this weekend. With the loss of Wednesday’s program, a day of racing has been added to the schedule on Thursday, Jan. 8. Entries for that program will be taken on Saturday. Two $100,000 turf stakes scheduled for Wednesday – the Eddie Logan Stakes at a mile and the Grade 3 Robert Frankel Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles – will be run on Jan. 8. The Logan was scheduled to be run for 2-year-olds on Wednesday and now will be run for 3-year-olds, since all Thoroughbreds had a recognized birthday on Jan. 1. The track has already lost three days of racing because of wet weather. The season was scheduled to start on Dec. 26, but racing that day and on Dec. 27 was canceled because of rain. So far, there have been two days of racing on Sunday and Monday. The Monday program was a makeup day. Wednesday’s program was also scheduled as a makeup day. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
