Rainbow 6 pool tops $3.1 million going into Wednesday
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The Rainbow 6 jackpot has grown to more than $3.1 million heading into Wednesday’s action after surviving a couple of scares over the weekend. A combination of large and, in many cases, inscrutable fields led to some major upsets during both sequences, leaving three horses alive for the entire jackpot Saturday and two more on Sunday. In both cases, the winner of the finale led to multiple winning combinations, which returned $61,173 for a 20-cent wager Saturday and $30,870 the following afternoon.

The Rainbow 6 has gone unsolved for 31 days, since the mandatory payout in January of a record $19.8 million pool. No date has been set for the next disbursement of the entire pool, although in all likelihood it will come either Friday, March 30, or Saturday, March 31, Florida Derby Day. The 2017-18 championship meet ends April 1, which is Easter Sunday.
A pair of allowance races will be included in the Rainbow 6 sequence on Wednesday, both carded on the turf.
The ninth event is a first-level optional claimer for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles that carries a $56,000 purse. The field includes Gio Game, making her first start since a ninth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies; European invader Punked; impressive maiden winners Sweet Sting and Mitchell Road; and Camila Princess, the only two-time winner in the field.
The 10th race will be decided under second-level optional-claiming conditions for older horses going a mile. The field is topped by Grade 3 winner Saham and European Group 3 winner Cunco, an Irish-bred making his North American debut for trainer Bill Mott. Other key contenders include Arch Daddy, Creative Courage, and Black Sea.
