HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Horseplayers will be given an early Christmas present on Sunday when Gulfstream Park offers a mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 pool, which figures to have a carryover of nearly $300,000 and a final jackpot estimated in the vicinity of $3 million if not taken down on either Friday or Saturday. The Rainbow 6 begins with the fifth event on a 10-race program and is not for the faint of heart or light of pocket. Four of the six races in the sequence are carded on the turf, bringing together inscrutable fields, including the $58,000 main event, a high-priced optional-claiming and allowance race that lured a field of eight evenly matched fillies and mares. It goes as race 8. The lightly raced Random Harvest is the tepid morning-line favorite, despite the fact she comes in idle since finishing third in a well-graded and similarly conditioned optional-claiming and allowance race going nine furlongs on May 11 at Churchill Downs. A half-sister to Grade 1 winner Full Count Felicia trained by James Toner, Random Harvest is training forwardly for her return and has turned in a couple of promising works over the turf course at Palm Meadows since her arrival in South Florida late last month. Random Harvest appears to be a must-use in the Rainbow 6, although those with ample bankrolls will likely choose to take a spread to get through this wide-open race. Among the other logical players are graded stakes-tested Eternal Silence, who also is coming off a layoff; the much improved Mama Bella off a solid second-place finish behind the multiple stakes-placed Charlie’s Wish under the same conditions here Oct. 18; and Silver Moonlight, who brings a modest two-race winning streak against lesser competition into the race. :: Get Gulfstream Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. She figures to be forwardly placed and is likely to improve off her U.S. debut while turning back in distance after being hard-used on the front end before fading to sixth going 1 1/8 miles last month at Churchill Downs. The remainder of the Rainbow 6 sequence shapes up as follows: Race 5 Sky’s Not Falling seems like the most logical winner of the opening leg and perhaps will be a single for many. He has come out second best against better in each of his last two starts, including two back at Colonial to Wolfie’s Dynaghost – the morning-line favorite in Saturday’s Grade 3 Fort Lauderdale Stakes. Those trying to beat the favorite might consider Tocayo, who also gets some class relief off his recent races. Race 6 This full field of maiden 2-year-old fillies is a head-scratcher, and the race may require a real spread to successfully navigate these deep waters. There are any number of potential winners, including a couple of promising-looking first-time starters, Wine On Sunday and Mia Familia. Wine On Sunday has been working well for her debut but is poorly drawn on the extreme outside, barring scratches. Of the experienced ones, Irresistible; Chartist; Quality Street; Elegant Charm, who is potentially the controlling speed in a relatively paceless field; and Viking Quest appear to be legitimate win threats. Race 7 Entendre beat this same kind last month, despite breaking well behind the field. He stays put off the claim and is the most likely winner, assuming he leaves with the others this time around. Swirvin would be the most logical alternative but also is a huge question mark while taking a big plunge in class off a couple of solid efforts against much better. He is perhaps the quickest of a number of speed types in this lineup. :: Play Gulfstream Park with confidence! DRF Past Performances, Picks, and Clocker Reports are available now.  Race 9 Maerdama, a potential single, is dropping and stretching out to a distance she’s run well enough at in the past and is the one to catch and likely beat in this average-looking field of lower-level conditioned claimers. It’s hard to make a strong case for most of the others, with Shelovestotravel the big question mark while taking a big class plunge and trying dirt for the first time with her Beyer Speed Figures heading in the wrong direction. Race 10 It would probably be a good idea to be well covered if fortunate enough to still be alive heading into the finale. The race features another full field on the turf, this one bringing together a relatively inconsistent group of lower-level conditioned claiming types. Spirit of the Law gets some much needed class relief and is well drawn on the rail for trainer Mike Maker. He may have finally found his niche with these. Hard to know what to expect from several of the other key players. The Great Oscar is coming off a career-best Beyer, but it came over the Tapeta course. Royal Salute drops to his weakest level yet. And then there’s the speedy Eton or trainer Chad Brown’s Jurisprudence, who has several races on his form good enough to dominate these but exits a clunker when tagged for the first time last month in New York. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
