HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – It’s becoming a tradition at the Gulfstream Park Championship meet, this forceout-after-a-huge-raceday thing. Gulfstream horseplayers looking for more high-end action after the Fountain of Youth card Saturday won’t even have to wait 24 hours to dive into a wagering pool that could surpass $10 million when the Rainbow 6 is forced out Sunday. The first race in the 20-cent jackpot wager is set for 2:42 p.m. Eastern. The sequence spans races 6 to 11, or the last six races of the program, which starts at 12:10. The Rainbow 6 pool has grown incrementally since it was last emptied by forceout on Jan. 29, the day after the Pegasus World Cup; other forceouts in recent winters here also have been held the Sunday after major dates. Into Friday, the Rainbow 6 carryover stood at $1,140,323. :: Get ready for Gulfstream Park racing with DRF Past Performances, Picks, and Clocker Reports.  Track officials are anticipating new Rainbow 6 handle approaching eight figures, although maximizing handle is dependent on the jackpot not being swept Friday or Saturday. Regardless of whether that happens, track officials said the forceout will proceed as scheduled. There is no “solo winner” requirement when the Rainbow 6 pool undergoes a mandatory disbursement. New handle Jan. 29 was more than $6.2 million when horseplayers chased a carryover of $828,942. Winning 20-cent tickets returned $6,086. The Gulfstream record for a Rainbow 6 pool is $15,788,225, set Jan. 28, 2018, the day after the Pegasus. Continuing hot and dry conditions in the local area mean all races scheduled for the turf most likely will stay put Sunday. Here’s a rundown of the sequence: Race 6 The maiden victory by Breaker of Chains in her North American debut at Kentucky Downs in September 2021 was one of those races that had to be seen to be believed, as she won handily with an 89 Beyer Speed Figure despite an awful start. Her three subsequent starts all come with various excuses – the first two were stakes, and her latest on Pegasus Day was her first in 13 months – and now she has benefit of a race under her belt and staying put for a first-level allowance condition. Irad Ortiz Jr., the hottest jockey on the planet, retains the mount on Breaker of Chains, who surely will be a single on many players’ tickets. Ambitieuse and Watch It figure as her top threats. Race 7 This bottom-level maiden-claiming race going seven furlongs drew a couple of very interesting first-time starters from winning barns, those being Broadway Charm for Ralph Nicks and Blazingly from Jonathan Thomas. Maybe the toteboard (check the race 6-7 daily double probables?) will provide a clue on how live their chances are. Otherwise, the list of must-use options should probably begin with Prominencia, who gets the kitchen-sink treatment of first Lasix, blinkers off, and a class drop with Ortiz staying aboard. Race 8 Chaos, “Rainbow” is thy name. Not too many of these older horses would qualify as a major surprise in this “beaten” turf route, and that even includes the also-eligibles. (Be a pro and mark your scratches before embarking on your long Rainbow 6 journey.) Where to start? Regal Speaker might have a slight class edge, but it’s been nearly 18 months since he last won (or even shows a ‘1’ on his past performances). Doctor Ron (Ortiz), Gooch Go Bragh, Exult, and Tiz Romantic are all logical, too. Looks like a spread race for many. Race 9 Marty Drexler, in for a second Gulfstream winter from his longtime Canada home, continues to make an impact at this meet with horses such as Veloce, who was a good second last month in this same kind of $10,000 open claimer going two turns on the Tapeta. Problem is, Veloce has won just 4 of 34 starts and could again be vulnerable Sunday to a late run from any of a number of similarly capable rivals. That list includes (but isn’t limited to) Pleasecallmeback (Ortiz), King Theo, Summer Shandee, and the certifiable wild card Winning Factor, who plunges in class off a seven-month layoff for Mike Maker. Race 10 Dripping Gold was beaten just a nose in his last start, which came in this same kind of first-level allowance going 1 3/8 miles on the Aqueduct turf. That normally would qualify him as a solid favorite next start back – except there are at least a few others in here with comparably dangerous form, such as Grand Journey, Howe Street (Ortiz), and the also-eligible Stat. A few more are eligible to jump up with a top effort (Experienced, So High, Paratus, Meyer), but the bottom line is this one goes through Dripping Gold. :: Get Gulfstream Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Available every race day.  Race 11 All the first-timers from high-profile stables in this maiden-special turf route for 3-year-old fillies makes this final leg nearly inscrutable, so good luck if you’re still alive to this point. Chad Brown steps in with a well-prepped beginner in Utilization Rate (Ortiz), while Christophe Clement doubles the fun with Queen Picasso and Pret a Toucher. Bill Mott has a Juddmonte newbie in Grandine in addition to Lady Bee, and it might be folly for a serious ticket to omit horses such as Sun Bee, Highland Grace, Soviet Excess, and King’s Secret. All in all, a typical Rainbow 6-ender. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
