Rainbow 6 carryover tops $271,000
The Rainbow 6 jackpot at Gulfstream Park has not been hit for 18 straight race days and the carryover pool has grown to $271,570 for Thursday. The bet, which has a 20-cent minimum, will run on the fifth through 10th races. The sequence Thursday is made up of claiming races, and it ends with a $25,000 maiden claimer for 2-year-old fillies which drew a field of 12.
The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out only when there is a single ticket with all six winners. The last time that happened was July 16, when the jackpot was hit for $164,483. On cards when there is no single winning ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool is paid to those holding tickets with the most winners and 30 percent is carried over as part of the jackpot pool.
Below is a look at the Rainbow 6 sequence for Thursday:
Race 5 – Majestic Z looks like a strong favorite in the first leg, a $12,500 maiden claimer for 3-year-olds and up at a mile on turf. He’s picking up more ground after racing at 7 1/2 furlongs last time, and the added distance figures to suit this runner, who has done his best work at 1 1/16 miles. Other players include Bishop’s Sleeves and Wild n’ Wild, while Starship Verdict has fired some strong recent works.
Race 6 – Majesticmasquerade leads a $6,250 claiming race for fillies and mares at six furlongs off a win at the distance and level last out at Gulfstream. She’s been flattered since, as three horses she defeated came back to win their next start, for claiming prices ranging from $6,250 to $12,500. Climate Change gives up recency to Majesticmasquerade, but the filly has a strong record of 3 for 5.
Race 7 – There are a host of options in this $12,500 claiming race for 3-year-olds and up at five furlongs on the grass. The chief players appear to be Rednamite, who is taking a drop in class, and Loud Pipes, who is back on his best surface. Other contenders are K C Wiegmann and Amace.
Race 8 – The one-turn mile is a stern test for comebacker Storm Warnings, who is dropping from the $20,000 claiming ranks into a $6,250 claimer for his first out since 2014. Alternatives who have raced more recently include Gobi Gold and El Gran Joyful, who exits a race that has produced two next-out winners, both at Gulfstream.
Race 9 – Lying Eyes has a chance to steal away in this $12,500 maiden-claiming race for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on turf. Perhaps her main pace rival is Freed Spirit. Starship Bellagio is a logical contender.
Race 10 – R Quick Temper has experience and owns the field’s best career Beyer Speed Figure. First Punch is a first-time starter by First Dude, who is getting 25 percent juvenile debut winners from a limited sample. Saratoga Ransom shows a nice series of works for her debut. Her dam, Sixy Chic, was a two-time winner at 2.
