With rain on the way, Santa Anita cancels Friday card

Barbara D. Livingston With the immediate future of racing at Santa Anita uncertain, so too is the running of the Santa Anita Handicap, which has been run every year since 1945.
With heavy rain forecast for Southern California, Santa Anita has preemptively canceled racing for Friday, March 13.
The track initially announced the cancellation in a tweet on Monday afternoon, noting that weekend racing "will be evaluated later this week and will be dependent on the forecast."
The Grade 1 Beholder Mile for fillies and mares, headlined by Hard Not to Love, is one of two stakes scheduled to be run on Saturday along with the Grade 2 San Simeon, a 5 1/2-furlong turf race for older horses. Sunday's scheduled feature is the $100,000 Irish O'Brien for California-bred fillies and mares, also at 5 1/2 furlongs on turf.
