Rain could impact Saturday stakes
ARCADIA, Calif. – There are two Grade 3 races for fillies and mares on Saturday’s program, but rain could result in one surface change.
The $100,000 La Canada Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the main track has a probable field of six – Bernina Star, Escape Clause, Exuberance, Lemoona, Stradella Road, and True Royalty. Stradella Road was third in the Lady of Shamrock Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at a mile on turf and has not run on the main track in eight starts.
The $100,000 Las Cienegas Stakes is scheduled for about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course, but rain could result in the race being moved to the main track.
Apprentice Fuentes suspended
Apprentice jockey Luis Fuentes has been suspended four racing days – from Friday through Jan. 17 – for causing interference in the 10th race on Jan. 1.
Fuentes was cited for his ride on Principe Carlo, who finished ninth in a maiden race on the hillside turf course. Principe Carlo drifted out in the stretch, forcing the riders of Grab the Munny and Offshore Affair to alter course. Grab the Munny and Offshore Affair finished seventh and eighth.
Through Sunday, Fuentes, 18, has won one win from 18 mounts at this meeting. He won 28 races in 2018.
