Ragan's Jet tests win streak in rescheduled Wilma Mankiller

Oklahoma’s top female sprinter Ragan’s Jet is part of the redrawn field for the $50,000 Wilma Mankiller on Monday at Will Rogers Downs. She will attempt to win her fifth straight race when she moves into open company for the stakes, which was canceled last week due to work being done on a small area of the racing surface in Claremore, Okla.
The Wilma Mankiller, a six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares, again drew a field of seven but lost shipper Quick Munny and picked up multiple stakes winner Star of the North. Others set to start include defending winner Distorted Flash and multiple stakes winner Dicey.
Will Rogers canceled all of its races last week “to repair a small section of the track that was contaminated during a tractor fire,” according to a statement issued by the track.
Ragan’s Jet has built her streak against Oklahoma-breds since last July, when she won the $45,000 Muscogee Creek Nation Stakes at Fair Meadows in Tulsa. She proceeded to win an allowance at Remington Park ahead of the track’s $114,000 Oklahoma Classics Night Distaff Sprint in October. Ragan’s Jet then launched her 5-year-old season at Will Rogers, winning the $55,000 Miranda Diane.
Ragan’s Jet was originally set to break from the rail, but when the Wilma Mankiller was redrawn she landed post 3. Gerardo Mora, who has been aboard for each of her wins during the streak, has the mount on the daughter of the Storm Cat stallion Mister Lucky Cat. Ragan’s Jet races for Bryan Hawk and is trained by Joe Offolter.
Hawk and Offolter also will be represented by Distorted Flash, who races as a separate betting interest. She captured last year’s Wilma Mankiller to cap a three-race win streak. She enters this year’s renewal off a dead-heat allowance win with Dicey on March 5 at Will Rogers. Richard Eramia has the mount on the Kentucky-bred daughter of Flashback from post 5.
Dicey has made one start since her dead-heat win with Distorted Flash, finishing third in the Miranda Diane. She has done some of her best running from off the pace. Kylee Jordan has the mount from post 7 for trainer Patrick Swan.
Aquila Moon makes her stakes debut after winning three of her last four starts. Her unraced dam, Katie’s Keepsake, is a half-sister to champion female sprinter Goodnight Olive.
Adria is looking for her fourth straight win. She enters off a Will Rogers allowance victory over Star of the North.
The Wilma Mankiller is slotted as the ninth race on a 10-race card that starts at 1 p.m. Central.
