Ragan's Jet takes aim at fifth straight win in Wilma Mankiller Stakes
?q=100)
Oklahoma’s top female sprinter Ragan’s Jet will attempt to win her fifth straight race Monday when she moves into open company for the $50,000 Wilma Mankiller at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla.
The six-furlong race for fillies and mares drew a field of seven, including defending winner Distorted Flash, multiple stakes winner Dicey, and Fair Grounds shipper Quick Munny.
Ragan’s Jet has built her streak against Oklahoma-breds since last July, when she won the $45,000 Muscogee Creek Nation Stakes at Fair Meadows in Tulsa. She proceeded to win an allowance at Remington Park ahead of the track’s $114,000 Oklahoma Classics Night Distaff Sprint in October. Ragan’s Jet then launched her 5-year-old season at Will Rogers, winning the $55,000 Miranda Diane.
Ragan’s Jet will start from the rail under regular rider Gerardo Mora, who has been aboard for each of her wins during the streak. She has the speed to hold her position from the fence, and can either show the way or track Quick Munny, who enters off a wire-to-wire win over second-level allowance rivals in January at Fair Grounds.
Ragan’s Jet could be flattered by the time the Wilma Mankiller runs Monday. Earlier on the card in race 6, Gotta See Red, who was fourth in the Miranda Diane, starts as a leading contender in an open-company allowance for fillies and mares.
Ragan’s Jet is a daughter of the Storm Cat stallion Mister Lucky Cat. She races for Bryan Hawk and is trained by Joe Offolter.
Hawk and Offolter also will be represented by Distorted Flash, who races as a separate betting interest. She captured last year’s Wilma Mankiller to cap a three-race win streak. She enters this year’s renewal off a dead-heat allowance win with Dicey on March 5 at Will Rogers. Richard Eramia has the mount on the Kentucky-bred daughter of Flashback from post 4.
Distorted Flash has tactical speed and could get a stalking trip behind Ragan’s Jet and Quick Munny.
Quick Munny has been working at Oaklawn Park in recent times. In her final prep for Monday she breezed five furlongs in 1:00 on April 8. Mitchell Murrill is in to ride for trainer Chris Hartman.
Dicey has made one start since her dead-heat win with Distorted Flash, finishing third in the Miranda Diane. She has done some of her best running from off the pace. Kylee Jordan has the mount from post 6 for trainer Patrick Swan.
Sinnin N Grinnin, who was second in the Miranda Diane, also returns in the Wilma Mankiller. Leandro Goncalves has the mount from post 5 for trainer Kari Craddock.
Aquila Moon makes her stakes debut after winning three of her last four starts. Her unraced dam, Katie’s Keepsake, is a half-sister to champion female sprinter Goodnight Olive.
The field is completed by first-level allowance winner Tiffany Twist.
