Radke to have surgery after spill

Chuck Dybdal|Apr 15, 2004

Jockey Kevin Radke broke his left wrist and suffered a compound fracture of his nose when he fell after his mount, Reflected Lite, clipped heels with another horse on the first turn of a one-mile turf race at Bay Meadows on Wednesday.

Radke, who won the riding title at the recent Golden Gate Fields meeting, was taken to Stanford Hospital after the accident. Medical staff members there performed procedures to realign his nose and wrist.

Radke was released from the hospital Thursday, but, according to Dr. David Seftel, the track physician at Bay Meadows, the rider was to undergo surgery on his nose and wrist on Friday. He said Radke would likely be sidelined six to eight weeks.
