Radical Right sells for $260,000 to top Fasig-Tipton Midlantic winter mixed sale

The stakes-placed gelding Radical Right sold for $260,000 as a strong horses of racing age section helped Tuesday's Fasig-Tipton Midlantic winter mixed sale post an improved average and a steady median.
Fasig-Tipton reported 172 horses sold in the single-session sale at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium for gross receipts of $3,233,600. At last year's sale, 261 horses grossed $3,905,100.
The average price was $18,800, jumping 26 percent from $14,962 at last year's sale. The median was unchanged at $10,000.
The buyback rate was 25 percent, compared to 22 percent.
Led by Radical Right, who was purchased by Tom Kagele, the sale's six highest-priced horses all emerged from the horses of racing age section. The sale-topping 3-year-old gelding, who had raced as a homebred for Richard Shultz, was consigned by Northview Stallion Station, as agent.
Radical Right, by First Samurai, sports a career record of 15-3-6-3 to date for earnings of $179,100. After winning an allowance race on Nov. 6 at Laurel Park with a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 91, he matched that number when finishing second by 1 1/2 lengths in the City of Laurel Stakes on Nov. 26.
Radical Right is from the immediate family of champion Bayakoa, as well as Breeders' Cup Classic winner Fort Larned and Grade 1 winner Affluent.
Trainer Mike Maker selected the sale's second- and third-highest priced horses, landing $160,000 Maryland-bred colt Heldish, who is multiple stakes-placed this year as a juvenile; and the winning 3-year-old gelding Patient Capital
