Racing Sundown captures San Felipe

Racing Sundown was forwardly placed throughout for a two and three quarter length win over Questionable Past in the $40,000 at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night. The race was marred by the breakdown of favorite Cat's Cat, who sustained a fracture to her left front leg, near the ankle, and was euthanized, according to her rider, Ted Gondron.
Hay Madison finished third, a head behind Questionable Past.
Racing Sundown ($33.40) raced just off Cat's Cat through and opening quarter in 22.66 seconds, then went on to cover the six furlongs over a fast track in 1:11.60. Quincy Hamilton rode Racing Sundown for her owner and trainer, Larry Brown.
Racing Sundown earned $24,000 for the win, which was her fourth from 26 career starts. She has now earned $118,400.
Cat's Cat, a 5-year-old mare, was a stakes winner of $168,513.
"She felt the best tonight," said Gondron. "She warmed up great, made the lead easy and was moving easy.
"It's a shame."
