Racing board to consider Fairplex-Los Alamitos dates transfer
ARCADIA, Calif. – The California Horse Racing Board is scheduled to discuss at its monthly meeting Friday the transfer of racing dates from the Los Angeles County Fair to Los Alamitos Race Course later this year.
Earlier this week, the Los Angeles County Fair, located in Pomona, announced it was transferring its race meeting to Los Alamitos from Sept. 5-21, pending approval from the racing board. The agreement also needs legislation allowing the county fair to run its meeting outside of Los Angeles County. Los Alamitos is located in Cypress, in Orange County, about 35 miles from Pomona.
At Friday’s racing board meeting at Golden Gate Fields, scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. Pacific, the board might take action on the allocation of racing dates for the Los Angeles County Fair, according to a statement released by the board Tuesday.
Los Alamitos plans to run an 11-day fair meeting. The track has two other Thoroughbred meetings scheduled this year – a two-week meeting in July and a three-week meeting in December. Those dates were previously held by Hollywood Park, which closed last December.
