R.A.C.E. Fund online auction fundraiser starts May 27

DRF Breeding Staff|May 12, 2016

Edited press release

The R.A.C.E. Fund, a non-profit organization, launches its 2016 fund drive with an online auction on eBay starting May 27 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern and ending on June 3 to help raise funds for racehorse retirement and rescue. R.A.C.E. Fund – Retirement Assistance and Care for Equines – is an approved organization of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance.

Featured items include halters donated by WinStar, Castleton Lyons, Lane’s End, Taylor Made, Nuckols Farm, Timber Town Stable, and a VIP Private Tour of Three Chimneys Stallion Complex in Kentucky. The stallion halters to be auctioned are from 2001 Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos; 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide; multiple graded stakes winner and 2009-2010 Eclipse Award champion turf male Gio Ponti; multiple graded stakes winners Havre de Grace and Candy Ride; and the undefeated New Mexico-bred Peppers Pride.

Horseshoes to be auctioned include those worn by multiple graded stakes winners First Samurai and 2005 Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner Afleet Alex, provided by Claiborne Farm and Gainesway Farm, respectively. Plus, collectible first and second edition Secretariat bobbleheads will be auctioned.

Other items to be auctioned are autographed photos of Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel winning the Kentucky Derby on Street Sense (2007) and of his victory aboard Rachel Alexandra when she won the 2011 Woodward Stakes; signed photo by jockey Ron Turcotte of Secretariat winning the 1973 Belmont Stakes; and a signed photo by jockey Edgar Prado winning the 2006 Kentucky Derby on Barbaro donated by Gallery of Champions.

“We have some very exciting auction items again this year,” said Marlene Murray, President of the R.A.C.E. Fund. “We would like to especially thank volunteer Roxanne Campbell for her tireless efforts as well as Calvin Borel, Claiborne, Three Chimneys, Lane’s End, Taylor Made, Gainesway, WinStar, Nuckols Farm, Timber Town Stables, and Castleton Lyons for their generous support by donating such valuable items to help us raise funds.”

All proceeds raised will be used to help racehorses in need of retirement and rescue from slaughter.

More information about the R.A.C.E. Fund can be obtained at www.racefund.org. Any questions about the auction or items can be sent to info@racefund.org
