Raagheb tracks hot pace to score upset in Malouff Handicap

Raagheb closed into a hot pace to win the $60,000 J.R. Malouff Handicap by 2 1/4 lengths over Secular Nation on Sunday at the Downs at Albuquerque. It was another 4 1/2 lengths back in third to American Dubai.
The J.R. Malouff was for 3-year-olds and up over six furlongs. It was run on a fast track.
Raagheb ($26.80) settled off the pace set by Secular Nation, who took the field through fractions of 22.74 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.61 for the half-mile. Raagheb moved past that one in the stretch and went on to cover the distance in 1:09.98.
Luis Negron was aboard for trainer Justin Evans.
Raagheb is a son of Street Cry who races for Paul Miller and Bill Tomasic. He earned $36,000 for his victory in the J.R. Malouff. He has now won 7 of 48 starts for earnings of $416,402.
