R Dub makes Silver Cup Futurity third straight win

Mary Rampellini|Aug 01, 2015
R Dub 8-1-2015
Coady Photography R Dub, ridden by Dennis Collins, reels off his third win of the meet in the Silver Cup Futurity.

R Dub won his third straight race Saturday at Arapahoe Park, where he darted to a 1 1/4-length win over Let the Boy Sing in the $35,000 colts and geldings division of the Silver Cup Futurity. The race shared a card with the fillies division, where Almost Famous won her maiden in the $35,000 race.

R Dub ($3.80) has established himself as a 2-year-old of note this meet, winning his maiden by 10 lengths in June and then capturing the Colorado Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Futurity in July. He was always prominent in the Silver Cup, as he stalked the pace in third, moved up around the turn, and went on to cover 5 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:05.54.

Dennis Collins was aboard for Nye S. Brookover and trainer Kenneth Gleason.

R Dub has now won three of four starts and $60,147. He is a Colorado-bred son of Fort Prado.

Make Us Famous ($14.60) was making her second career start in the fillies and division and pushed the pace, overtook the leader, and remained diligent through the stretch to cover 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:07.65.

Jockey Brian Theriot, who was winning his fourth race on the program, was aboard for Rushton Farms and trainer Temple Rushton.

Make Us Famous won by 1 1/2 lengths over Ritzyrags, while it was a nose back in third to C.J.’s Star.
