R Dub wins the CTBA Futurity
Coady Photography With his CTBA Futurity victory, R Dub comes into the Silver City Futurity as the only stakes winner.

R Dub has established himself as a 2-year-old of note at the Arapahoe Park meet. He won his maiden by more than 10 lengths in June and rolled to a stakes win in July. R Dub will be favored to add to his reputation Saturday in the $35,000 colts-and-geldings division of the Silver Cup Futurity. He will be chasing his third straight win in the 5 1/2-furlong sprint that shares a card with the $35,000 fillies division of the Silver Cup Futurity.

R Dub will face six others, including a pair of runners who finished behind him last out in the $50,000 Colorado Thoroughbred Breeders Association Futurity. In the fillies division, C J’s Star is the probable favorite against 10 others, including a first-time starter named Silver Cup.

Colts & Geldings (Race 7)

Key contenders

R Dub (Last 3 Beyers: 53-50-32)

* He is the lone stakes winner in the field by virtue of his 2 3/4-length victory in the CTBA Futurity on July 12 at Arapahoe. Overall, the horse is 2 for 3. His lone loss came in his debut when third in a local maiden special weight for open company June 7.

* R Dub won his trial for the CTBA Futurity wire to wire but showed a new dimension in the finale. He tracked the pace in fourth, then darted clear under regular rider Dennis Collins.

* Kenneth Gleason trains for Nye S. Brookover.

Dugaboy Brown (Last 2 Beyers: 46-44)

* He appears to be the chief threat to R Dub, having finished second to Saturday’s probable favorite in the CTBA Futurity.

* Dugaboy Brown has made one other start, winning a trial for the CTBA by 5 1/2 furlongs June 27.

* Trained by Gleason, he breezed a bullet half-mile in 47 seconds July 26 at Arapahoe.

* Mike Ziegler has the mount for Annette Bishop.

Fillies (Race 8)

Key contenders

C J’s Star (Last 2 Beyers: 31-19)

* Also from the barn of Gleason, she was an 8 1/2-length winner of the $45,000 Colorado Thoroughbred Breeders Association Lassie in her most recent start July 11 at Arapahoe. C J’s Star won her maiden in the race, following a fourth-place finish in a local maiden special weight for open company June 21.

Lucy Loves Nana (Last 2 Beyers: 11-19)

* She was the runner-up in the CTBA Lassie and is a half-sister to past Silver Cup Futurity winner Lookingoodinatux.
