A R Crackers upsets Retama Park Turf BC

A R Crackers was up for a head win over 3-5 favorite Waupaca on Saturday night in the $50,000 Retama Park Turf Breeders' Cup Handicap. Waupaca was a clear second, finishing a length in front of third-place finisher Seainsky.

A R Crackers returned $20.60 and was ridden by Omar Rodriguez, who registered his first North American stakes win last weekend at Retama.

In the Retama Turf, A R Crackers stalked Waupaca, who led the field through fractions of 24.13 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.92 for the half-mile and 1:12.55 for six furlongs. A R Crackers began his bid at the quarter pole, and went on to cover the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf in 1:45.14.

A R Crackers earned $30,000 for the win, which was his first in a stakes. Overall, he has a record of five wins from 25 starts for earnings of $90,551. John Locke trains the horse for Peggy and Albert Serviss.
