Quirky takes Charger Bar Handicap

Quirky began 2015 the way she ended 2014, winning a major stakes at Los Alamitos.

On Sunday, Quirky won the $98,500 Charger Bar Handicap for Quarter Horse fillies and mares, the track’s first major race of the new year. Quirky won the $145,850 Southern California Derby on Dec. 21.

Ridden by Carlos Huerta, Quirky ($6.60) won the 400-yard Charger Bar Handicap by a half-length over The Streakin Clean, an 11-1 shot. Significant Heart, the 8-5 favorite, finished third in the field of nine.

The Streakin Clean had an early lead but could not hold off Quirky, who was timed in 19.73 seconds.

Trained by James Glenn Jr. for Los Alamitos track owner Ed Allred, Quirky has won 4 of 11 starts and earned $235,643. She has won three stakes in her career.
