Quiet All American by a neck in OBS stakes

Marty McGee|Feb 15, 2010

Quiet All American, ridden by Victor Lebron, proved narrowly best in winning a three-horse photo in the colt-and-gelding division of the $100,000 Ocala Breeders' Sales Championship, the anchor race of the sales company's annual one-day meet held Monday in Ocala, Fla.

Owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and trained by Dale Romans, Quiet All American finished 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.40 when prevailing by a neck over Gator Tiger, with Forty Nine Acres another nose back in third. Thank U Philippe, most recently fourth in the Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park, challenged to the upper stretch before fading to fifth.

Quiet All American, a gray colt by Forest Camp, was coming off a maiden win at Gulfstream.

"We've always thought he was a nice colt," Romans said.

All of the OBS races are restricted to 3-year-olds that passed through the company's sales ring. The races are run at the Ocala Breeders' Training Center over a synthetic surface known as Safetrack. No parimutuel wagering is taken on the races.

In earlier races:

* Splendid Sound entered the filly division of the $100,000 OBS Championship as a maiden but exited as a stakes winner. She dueled Volare Contare into defeat and drew off to win the under Eibar Coa. Bill White trains Splendid Sound, by Trippi, for Charles Deters.

Splendid Sound finished 1 1/16 miles in 1:46.40. Miss Olivia Rae ran second, three lengths behind the winner.

* Gary D, ridden by Jesse Garcia, opened a big lead leaving the quarter pole in capturing the colt-and-gelding division of the $50,000 OBS Sprint. Freddie Hyatt trains Gary D, a Successful Appeal colt, for Donald Ming. Coming off a maiden win at Tampa, Gary D ran six furlongs in a track record-tying 1:09.80.

Chief Counsel, a WinStar Farm colt scratched from the OBS Championship, finished second, 3 3/4 lengths behind the winner.

* Dances With Ashley, with Jermaine Bridgmohan filling in for Julien Leparoux, surged to a 2 1/2-length score in the filly division of the $50,000 OBS Sprint, completing six furlongs in 1:10.40. Marty Wolfson trains Dances With Ashley, by Wildcat Heir, for Denholtz Stables. Omega Girl was second.

Leparoux, who rode Sunday at Santa Anita, was unable to get a connection into the Ocala area after his overnight flight from Los Angeles was canceled.
