Quickick to sit out Rachel Alexandra
?q=100)
Quickick, a Saratoga maiden winner before finishing second in the Grade 1 Alcibiades and third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, was not quite ready for Saturday’s Rachel Alexandra Stakes and instead will make her 3-year-old debut on Feb. 22 in the Honeybee at Oaklawn.
“Our goal was to run [in the Rachel Alexandra], but I felt like we needed one more work to really be confident in her fitness,” trainer Tom Amoss said.
Quickick, turned out for a few weeks after the Breeders’ Cup, resumed working Jan. 29 with a breeze officially recorded at three furlongs. But the work was more substantial than that, Amoss said. The filly, by McKinzie, has come back with a pair of five-furlong moves. Amoss said Dylan Davis, Quickick’s regular jockey, would travel from Florida to ride her in the Honeybee.
Amoss has the recent Fair Grounds allowance winner Aledean for the Rachel Alexandra, which is headed by Good Cheer and Simply Joking.
