Quick Quick Quick choice in turf co-feature

A pair of female-restricted sprint races at the same class level – $40,000 claiming or second-level allowance – highlight a 10-race Thursday card at Fair Grounds. Race 7, the more interesting of the two, is carded for about 5 1/2 furlongs on turf, while race 8 is at six furlongs on dirt.

In the turf race, the selection is Quick Quick Quick, who was claimed two starts ago and switched to turf last out by trainer Bobby Barnett with positive results. Racing at this class level and distance at Fair Grounds, Quick Quick Quick finished second, beaten only by Change of Control, who returned from that start to finish second, with an 88 Beyer Speed Figure, in the $75,000 Pan Zareta Stakes.

◗ Trainer Greg Foley won three races on the Sunday card at Fair Grounds, nearly matching his combined win total from the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 Fair Grounds meets. During those seasons Foley’s barn won just four races from 97 starters. His stable this meet already has six winners from 22 starters, including the promising 3-year-old maiden winner Major Fed.

◗ Aurelius Maximus, a 4-year-old Pioneerof the Nile colt, won a first-level allowance race Jan. 4 at Fair Grounds by 2 1/2 lengths, running 1 1/16 miles on dirt in 1:44.49 for a 100 Beyer Speed Figure. Aurelius Maximus started his career with Chad Brown but has made his last two starts for trainer Steve Asmussen.

◗ Midnight Bisou continued working toward an intended start in the $20 million Saudi Cup when she breezed five furlongs in 1:02.20 on Sunday morning. It was Midnight Bisou’s first five-furlong workout since she returned to a breezing pattern last month following a second-place finish in the Breeder’ Cup Distaff.
